Made Whole

Unlike Jerry McGuire, it was not another person who completed me.

I believe there is a God-shaped hole in each and every person.  We try to fill it with food, drugs, passions, other people and we are still hungry for what will fill us.

On this Good Friday, why not give Christ a chance?  You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.  Want more information?  I'll be happy to share!  Also, you can start here:

  1. I gave up on organized religion around 1995. It's a long story, but most people don't understand the difference between abandoning religion and abandoning one's faith. I still have that. I've been teaching at my current school in a predominantly Mormon community 24 years. Yesterday a student came to see me during my prep. She said, "I have something for you. It's a book, and it has helped me this year." She knows I've had a tough year, in part because I have taken on several big work-related tasks outside my teaching duties and in part because I have many at-risk seniors in one class. Then the student handed me a "Book of Mormon." That's a first. I thanked her and told her that I appreciate her thoughtfulness and that I understand how important faith is. We talked about other books, and a colleague (who is Mormon) came into my room, and we had a wonderful chat about faith and the struggles and binaries in our community because people don't respect diverse faiths.

In contrast, last week a student (I don't know who.) left a tract on my desk during one of my classes. It, too, was LDS. I asked who did it. I told the class that Jesus didn't run around incognito, that he didn't tell the disciples not to tell anyone his name or that he's the one who fed the multitude w/ the loaves and fishes. I told them that Jesus owned his identity and that they should to. No takers. After class, I put the tract in the trash. I'll keep the "Book of Mormon," and I'll read something so that I can share what I read w/ my thoughtful student.
